Chapter 3-4
Chapter 3 was mainly about the charcter's more in depth personality such as, on page 37 where the character explained who Katczinsky was like as understanding of all trades and the smartest. The mood was more of careless or relaxed since the character's at the end of the chapter humilate Himmelstoss by covering him with a bed cover and messing with him (which my dad informed me it was called a blanket party) and they just kind of talk about themselves. One idea that stood out to me was Kropp's about the leader's fighting which would be very innovated, just, and would save lives.(page 41)
Chapter 4 has a shift from chapter 3 because they all are at the front lines now and they are attacked by their first bombardment. The mood of the story is bewildered as they are bombed and gased for their first real war experience. I feel the only reason Paul survived and any soilders lived was mostly luck as Paul wouldn't not have put on his gas mask if not for Katczinsky been near him to tell him.
I felt I really didn't know how poision gas effected people but I read: http://science.howstuffworks.com/poison-gas-info.htm, and learned that poision gas didn't just suffocate people they also could have had scars blisters and otther physical damages.

I like how you went and read about poision gas so you could get some background information on it and figure out its true affects. I also like your word choice and how you related from a different page, and how you brought up the switch between chapter 3 and 4.
ReplyDeleteHuh, I didn't know that poison gas also effected the outside of a person's body and not just the inside. Nice research.
